Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How do Sun Solar pool panels work?

Your pool’s existing filter pump pushes water through our UV-resistant HDPE solar panels installed on your roof. Sunlight heats the water inside the panels before it circulates back into your pool, raising the temperature by about 10 °C during sunny days.

How many panels do I need?

The number of panels needed depends on:

  • Your pool’s surface area

  • Desired temperature increase

  • Positioning and sun exposure of the panels
A rule of thumb: use about 7500L of water with a solar blanket and 10000L of water per panel without one. We’ll help calculate the ideal amount in your free quote.

Can I install them myself (DIY)?

Absolutely! Our kits are DIY-friendly and include all necessary fittings. However, rooftop installations require comfort with roof work and plumbing. If preferred, we can Arrage a Installation for if you are based in Gauteng

Will this work in cloudy or winter conditions?

Panels rely on sunshine so at night or in deep clouds, heating stops. However, daytime warmth still raises pool temps. Using a solar pool cover helps retain heat overnight.

Do I need a new pump or extra equipment?

Most existing pool pumps (0.75–1.1 kW) are sufficient. Even in multi-story homes

How much does it cost to run?

Apart from electricity for your existing pump, there’s no additional running cost— No Extra electric  bills.

What maintenance is needed?

Very little! Periodic visual inspections and keeping your pool filter clean are all that’s required. Our one-piece HDPE panels and corrosion-resistant fittings are low-maintenance by design.

Can panels be mounted on any roof?

Yes—mounted on metal, tile, or composite roofs. Install works with most surfaces, and we provide clear guidance and materials for roof-safe installations.

Can I combine solar panels with my electric heater?

Definitely! Use solar panels for everyday heating, and your electric system for occasional top-ups during winter or overcast periods.

How long will panels last? Is there a warranty?

Our panels are designed to last over 30 years, and we back them with a 10-year warranty covering material defects.
